You bastards got me to try out so many different games. Yeah I have my own troubles and tend to lash out randomly. Yeah, we can't compete with the Codex or other places. When they're mostly focused on shitposting. It always amazes how other generals on here, can have more posters than us. Still, I think if more people discovered the thread, that we exist, it'd help tremendously. Nor is it the lack of engaging discussions. Me and countless others have tried our best, working tirelessly, to provide glorious content. Overall, the combat works, I like the transparency of it, it's fun. Of course, near the end of the game, you get an access to the fucking gun and this breaks the balance in half, but at this point you are already a broken demigod and it feels earned. The level designers will deliberately fuck with you expecting you to counter their bullshit with your own bullshit and this never gets old. That doesn't mean the game is simplistic. You understand from the get-go how different spells work and what counters what, so then it's just a matter of using appropriate skills and tools to win the day. One big advantage of the combat and the overall mechanics is that they are very clear and transparent, once you wrap your head around how shit works. It's not Torment, and it's not the focus of the game, but it didn't insult my intelligence and that's a plus. It's not a story-driven RPG, but the story is actually pretty well-told and well thought-out, everything you do makes sense, everything has it's place, the story builds up to a big reveal in a way that feels earned. And the tonal switch in the final dungeon is just really cool. And for some reason, the game never gets boring, there is always a new enemy just around the corner, new spells that you can use and game just feels satisfying to play. GOG Galaxy tells me I've spend 80 hours on this game, so content is definately there. There is a ton of stuff to do, quest, sidequests, promotion quests, hidden mini-quests, proto-Gwent, you name it. If you are looking for a straightforward, combat-heavy dungeon crawler, this game is for you. It's actually tricky to rate, because it all depends on what you search for in an RPG. I constantly keep forgetting to do this, so: And then there is entire autistic magic system that includes three spellcaster classes (mage, witch, druid) and a dozen of schools, including demonology and fucking healing. "Advanced" mode has you rolling for million other stats that I don't even want to get into here. So you want to have those as low as possible.Īnd that's the "novice" mode. And negative stats give you negative boons: Superstition makes you more subseptible to magic attacks, avarice makes you lose control when looting treasures, necrophobia makes you lose your shit when fighting undead, and so on. Naturally, you can just go "fuck it" and just pick the archetype by yourself, but then you are at the mercy of RNG gods.Īnd naturally, every positive stat gives you some benefit - Intuition makes you better at spotting shit, Charisma makes you better at tasks that require bullshitting people, that kind of thing. If you fail to roll those, you are shit out of luck. Let's say, I want to play as snow elf archetype - it requires 13 Agility and 12 Intuition and less than 4 in Acrophobia. Positive stats are: Courage, Intuition, Agility, Dexterity, Wisdom, Charisma Strength.Īnd THEN the game asks you to roll for negative stats: Superstition, Acrophobia, Claustrophobia, Avarice, Necrophobia, Curiosity. Every archetype has a minimum stat requirement and you roll for each stat individually. How it essentially works, the Dark Eye system essentially combines race and class into one (the classes are called archetypes), similarly to early D&D. I only recommend this with one condition, if you're interested in the history of D&D games, go try it. I grew up with Baldur's Gate and some of the other D&D games, so it's cool to see what the older D&D games were like. It was a fun ride, an infuriating ride that left me exasperated, but a fun ride nonetheless. In spite of that, I enjoyed my time with it. The sad thing is, it doesn't get any better in the sequel either - it gets worse. Oh yeah, some of the books and scrolls were quite entertaining to read through as well.īoy, let me tell you, combat was absolutely dreadful. There's a "twist", but if you know anything about Ravenloft. I was more angery at the game in those parts than having fun. It all adds to not a very fun experience, even frustrating at times. Lots of back tracking, annoying traps, stupid teleporters, hidden buttons that try your patience. Dungeons start to get boring, lazy, and tedious to play. I really liked The Count's VA, very menacing! However, the game falls apart in later portions. Fun puzzles, fantastic music - love the music! Both it and Dark Sun have the best music ever! - companions decent Voice Acting.
